While most people think of New Years Eve as a night when adults go out and party, you should know that children can take part in ringing in the New Year too. A great way in which this can be done is through hosting an overnight New Year Eve party. This does not have to be anything difficult. In fact, you can even plan this at the very last minute. Here is what you need to do:
Make a list of guests whom your child would like to invite to this party. Have your child make invitations to send or hand out to their friends. This can be as simple as a clock with lots of streamers and glitter. Make sure that you write the important information on it, including what time to arrive, what time to be picked up in the morning and what to bring along (i.e. a toothbrush, pajamas, a sleeping bag and a pillow). Before everyone arrives, take some time to decorate. This can be as easy as using a lot of streamers, confetti and balloons that are gathered together in a net that hangs from the ceiling for a balloon drop that is to be held at midnight. You will also want to have some hats and noisemakers to help add to the festivities as well. Have some food ready for when the children first arrive. Either have some finger-food snacks or a baked potato bar, then offer some fancy cupcakes that are sprinkled with confetti. You will need to have some group games like Twister, Charades and Pictionary for the children to play while waiting for the ball to drop. Of course, you will want them to be able to watch this on television as the time draws near. In the morning you will want a breakfast buffet with bagels, muffins, fruit, juice and milk. You can also make scrambled eggs and link sausages wrapped in refrigerator biscuits if you desire. After breakfast, take some time to talk about resolutions and allow the children to write down some of their own on an index card. As the children leave, make sure that they leave with a treat bag with things like little toys, cards and pencils inside of it. Regardless of what else they have in their treat bag, make sure that they have a small calendar as well so that whenever they use it throughout the new year, they will be able to remember all of the fun that they had at your party.
