Family Fun -
Playtime for Kids

For families who have small children, a family vacation is not always possible. However, this does not mean that you and your children cannot have fun this summertime. Here are ten ideas that will help you to have fun while staying within your budget:
Children LOVE water. So, why not put on bathing suits and turn on the sprinkler? Or get out a plastic pool? Maybe purchase some water guns? Or some water balloons? Paper can be a lot of fun if used right. Give your child a large sheet of packing paper or a big sheet of wall paper and a pen or pencil. They can then trace themselves and use paint to draw on clothing and other features. These life size pictures of your child look great on the wall. You can make your own sidewalk chalk so that your child can draw on your driveway or play hopscotch. Enjoy a baseball game together as a family. You can easily find inexpensive tickets to minor league games or you could even watch your local high school team play. Go camping in your living room or in your own backyard. This will be a great opportunity to spend time together as a family without the interruption of the television or video games. Check with your employer to see if you can take your children to work with you for a day or even for just a few hours. You should then get your child to help you with some of your daily tasks while they are there. Have either a board game night or a movie night. While this may sound quite simple, it can be a great deal of fun. Help your child set up a lemonade stand. This will keep them busy all day long and be educational too. (Just think of the math and spelling practice your child will get.) Go on a treasure hunt. This can keep your children busy for hours depending upon how simple or elaborate you decide to make it. Have an end of the summer party. Invite the children whom your child has been playing with all summer and their parents for a BBQ before school starts up again and everyone gets too busy for this type of an activity.
Certainly you and your children will be able to have lots of fun together this summer if you implement some of these ideas.
