A child's play room should be a refuge for them.  This should be a place where your child can go to find enjoyment while also helping them to develop.  In order to ensure that this is what is going on during your child's playtime, you will need to provide him with a great selection of educational toys. 

First of all, make sure that your child has a selection of dolls, accessories and pushchairs available.  Both boys and girls can enjoy playing with dolls.  Adding to your child's doll collection with such things as doll furniture, clothes, shoes, highchairs and strollers will help to stimulate your child's imagination here.

Secondly, your child should have a selection of role play toys.  These toys will encourage your child to mimic real life situations and create their own scenarios too.  This is a healthy part of your child's growth and development.  Such toys include:

• Traditional favorites of preschoolers include mini appliances, such as miniature versions of those things that you would find in your kitchen and laundry room. With these things your child can mimic what their parents do and also produce many other scenarios of their own.
• Your child's creativity can be enhanced by having pretend tools and work benches that they can use to mimic what adults do.  Another benefit of such toys is that they help to build logic and develop muscles.
• If you are looking for a toy that will last your child for several years of fun, then check out a play house.  There are many different things that your child can do with play houses, including using these as puppet theaters, general stores, a house or whatever else your child's imagination can come up with.

Third, your child should have a variety of jigsaws and other manipulatives to play with so as to encourage their cognitive development.  This is where wooden jigsaw puzzles, play dough, reading materials, writing materials and even a table would make great additions to your child's room.  While these items offer fun, quiet playtime, they also stimulate your child's cognitive learning skills.  This includes such things as problem solving and hand eye coordination skills.

As you can see, there are a lot of different types of old fashion toys that are great for your child's playtime.  Placing a selection of these toys in your child's bedroom will provide your child with a wonderful playtime.

"Imagination" is pretending to be a pirate using a stick as a sword and a scrap of cloth and some string as a eyepatch. Children have been making their own fun for centuries. Giving your children large quantities of toys will not stimulate their imaginations, it will make them materialistic and spoiled.
