Health - Stress

Let’s face it: the recession is hitting every home on the block. Whether you have been leading a luxurious lifestyle – or simply struggling to get by – the recession is taking its toll. Many people are finding that the recession makes them feel even more stressed out than ever.

It is critical that you manage your stress levels for optimum health. If you are job hunting or trying to raise a family – your stress level doesn’t just affect you but other factors in your life. When you don’t manage the stress in your life you can be irritable, overeat, drink too much alcohol or abuse yourself in other ways. It is important to take good care of yourself.

Begin by remembering that the recession is temporary. That this time will pass and is not forever. We have been through recessions in the past and have bounced back again and again. We are certain to do this once more. Keeping an optimistic attitude is most helpful and reminding yourself that this won’t last will help you get through the recession easily.

Don’t be afraid to seek professional help. If you have depression symptoms or anxiety that lasts for more than a few weeks. If you feel suicidal – for any period of time. Both of these are critical reasons to seek professional counseling or to speak to your doctor. You may need medication or just someone to talk to. Professional help can often make strides where simple self care is just not enough.

Be sure to get enough sleep. Some people either don’t get enough sleep or they sleep too much. Either is a stress reaction. Adequate sleep is needed for optimum health. Speak to your doctor if you are having trouble sleeping properly. Too much caffeine can give you problems with getting enough sleep. Cut out caffeinated drinks after 2pm each day and you’ll find you get best results.

Create a budget for your bills that works for now to give yourself the least amount of stress. Perhaps you can’t make full payments on every bill. But most creditors are willing to work with you if you can make partial payments and you communicate with them. The key is to communicate with them. Creating this budget will actually help you feel less stressed. Also, consider changing cable or wireless internet providers to save money. Consider consumer credit counseling if you just have too much trouble keeping up with your bills – these are not for profit organizations.

Stay active in your community. It can be very easy to isolate yourself when you don’t feel good about not having a job or have money troubles. That’s a time when you need your family, friends and community the very most. Connect with people you care about and let them care about you so that you feel supported by your community.

The recession is hitting every one and it almost hit me to death the other day. I got a real scare. I was about to be laid off. Just been divorced and coping with being a single mom after reading 'Ways to Deal with Major Life Crises Of Bankruptcy, divorce, Job Loss etc' by Joe Theu (available on amazon)20 of my colleagues got laid off. How to disclose to my kids was the first challenge when I got the rumors. Then the relief, when i learnt my name was not on the list. What a close shave.Good article.
