You might be thinking, at this age, what type of workout can they really do? Their attention span may be short but the key is to keep them active. Most toddlers at this age (their parents are the ones who are having the trouble keeping up) but there are exceptions. You also want to teach them how important physical fitness is at an impressionable age and that it can be fun and not thought of as a chore. Toddlers are not expected to do sit-ups, push-ups or anything along that line. Read below to find some examples of what you can have your toddler doing that he or she will enjoy. "Workout Ball" You can purchase a workout ball at any Target, K-Mart and Wal-Mart for around ten dollars or you can go to a fitness store and pay a little more. Either way, the workout ball is a very good accessory. And you will find that they will play with it even when you are not working with it. My workout ball ended out in the backyard with the dog because my little brother wanted to roll it down the hill. The workout ball is about 2 feet high. You will have to supervise when your child is using it. One exercise, which I'm about to explain, will also improve your child's sense of balance. What this entails is to have your child lay belly down over the ball and to bounce back from hands to feet. When they get to the position that they are only on their hands, they push off using their upper body, whereas when they are in the position when their feet are the only things touching, they push off using their lower body. It’s an easy exercise and a fun one at that. The child can also sit on the ball and bounce, keeping his or her feet touching the ground. Have your child tap their toes and lift their heels. And then bounce a little more. Their are a lot of gadgets out there that you may or may not want to buy, its up to you as parents to decide if that is what's best for your child. Remember, no one knows your child better than you! This age is an impressionable age. Make yourself a positive role model for your child/children. Believe it or not, what most kids learn, they learn from you.
