You may have heard all of the stories about how other women found out they were pregnant. The most common story is that they thought they had the flu but it turned out they were pregnant. For some women that may be true but there are at least 10 or more other symptoms that you may be feeling if you are pregnant. While it is true, having flu like symptoms is a common symptom, here are some of the other symptoms you may be feeling as well.
- Fatigue, it is a well known fact that women in their first trimester of pregnancy will be feeling a tremendous amount of fatigue. This usually happens right from the start and lasts until the 3rd or 4th month. If you notice that you are increasingly becoming tired for no reason other than doing your normal routine, then you could be pregnant. Keep in mind that along with fatigue you will be feeling other symptoms; feeling tired alone may just be a coincidence.
- Tender Swollen Breasts is another common symptoms, the tenderness would feel the same as if you were having your period but the swollenness would indicate more such as the pregnancy hormones which would cause the breasts to swell.
- Frequent urination is another common pregnancy symptom, if you notice that you are going to the bathroom more and more without drinking as much as you think then you could be pregnant. This symptom also occurs throughout the entire pregnancy so this is something that you will have to get used to. As you progress into the later months of pregnancy, some times the baby will be pressing on your bladder and you will need to go more often.
- Your normal body temperature will also increase as well. If you know your body runs a normal 98.6 or slightly higher as most people do and you notice that you are running a higher body temperature. Don’t discount the fact that you may be pregnant. Some women who experience the higher body temperature start to think that they are getting the flu or a cold but if 9 times out of 10 if you are trying to get pregnant then this may be a pregnancy symptom rather than a cold or the flu.
- A missed period is a great indication of pregnancy, back in the old days this was how a woman found out she was pregnant. Missed periods can also be cause of many other things such as stress but again, if you are feeling these other symptom then you miss your period then it is a great chance that you are pregnant.
- There is a symptom which most women do not know the name for but it is called Implantation bleeding. What happens after conception is that a woman may have small spots of bleeding about 10 to 12 days after conception. This coincides with the missed period, don’t panic the bleeding is extremely light, almost like a spotting. There is nothing to worry about. If you see this then get a pregnancy test and see for yourself.
- Nausea or vomiting, these are great indications of pregnancy. This would be the start of something very common in pregnancy called Morning Sickness. Don’t let the name fool you because you can feel this symptom at any time, in the morning, afternoon and night. This symptom will last up until the third trimester. Some women are blessed not to have this at all and other women experience this symptom at the extreme.
- As strange as this next one may sound it is absolutely true in most cases, if you are pregnant then you may start to notice odors and scents more often. The sense of smell is increased when you are pregnant. Some scents you may find pleasing and others that you may have loved at some point such as coffee you may find horrid. This symptom lasts throughout the entire pregnancy.
- Abdominal bloating, this will make you feel like you are having your period. But you will not, this bloating is caused by hormonal changes due to pregnancy. Clothes that once may have fit may feel tighter even if you are not showing. This is yet another symptom that you will see as pregnancy continues, but it is a great excuse to go out and buy new clothes.
- One of the last things you will find to confirm your pregnancy is proof. Most women confirm by using those home pregnancy tests. These tests are 99.9 percent accurate and most women will stand by that. Other women prefer the old traditional route and they go to the doctor for a blood test. Any of these two ways are great confirmation.
Pregnancy is a great time for most women, some you hear them say they loved being pregnant and other who wish they could have given birth at 6 months of pregnancy. The idea of confirming your pregnancy is exciting and it is also a great start in preparing your body and mind for being pregnant as well. Pregnancy does take its toll on the body as most women will tell you but it also it is tough emotionally. You will experience many different emotions. Some women find pregnancy overwhelming and other will find it enjoyable. Don’t think that you are a being a bad mom to be if you hate being pregnant. It is not always easy on a woman and every woman at one time or another doesn’t want to be pregnant, they want the baby but not the vomiting and the fatigue that comes along with it. Go see your doctor if you start to feel any of these symptoms, ask any question that you may have and trust your instinct because it is the only one that counts when you are pregnant. Remember, take it one day at a time and just relax and enjoy it. It really is a wonderful time in your family’s life.
