Planning a wedding can be a very exciting experience. If you are working with a budget, you may be afraid that you will not be able to plan your perfect wedding for lack of funds. It can be very tempting to overspend when you are making your wedding arrangements. After all, this is your big day and you only plan to get married once. Many people fail to consider that actual wedding is simply one day out of your life.
Your life after your wedding is much more important and the things that you will remember most from your wedding day really do not revolve around the perfect dress, the grandest cake or even the largest wedding party. Instead of putting yourself in debt to plan your perfect wedding, you can simply look for ways to get exactly what you want for less.
You can begin with your dress. Many brides-to-be do not realize that they can actually save money by getting a custom dress as opposed to buying one off the rack. If you have a beautiful designer dress in mind, think about taking a photo of that dress to your local seamstress and let her recreate the dress for you. You simply have to purchase the materials and pay for the sewing which will still come in at a much lower price than buying that more expensive designer original off the rack.
Flowers can also be fairly expensive, particularly if you are using freshly cut flowers that are not currently in season. You can save a virtual fortune if you do your own flowers. Simply choose the flowers that you want and buy the supplies to put together your bouquets, boutonnieres and other floral arrangements. Check with your local hobby supply shop if you are planning to use silk flowers or purchase fresh flowers from a local farmer’s market. Your local craft or hobby shop should have all of the items needed to create your bouquets and arrangements and you can save hundreds by doing your flowers on your own.
Consider your catering needs as well. Catering can be very expensive if you are paying by the plate. A buffet is a much less expensive idea and offers your guests everything that they want. You can save a fortune on your food so you can splurge for that champagne if you really want it. Meet with a caterer and discuss the option of a buffet or if you have family and friends who could help, let them prepare the food and set it up. Also consider your cake. You may have a cake design in mind that is going to cost several hundred dollars. Consider offering several smaller cakes instead of one very expensive one. Have the cake that you want only make it a smaller version. You will simply need to buy a few standard cakes from the bakery that will cost much less than a larger tiered cake. The smaller cakes can be served to guests and you still get your beautiful cake to cut and eat, only a smaller size. Again, if you have someone in your family or in your circle of friends who decorates cakes, ask about having the cake done as a favor or even as a gift to you. You could end up getting the cake of your dreams without spending a penny.
Finally, you will need to choose your wedding venue. Most places will require that you book well in advance, up to a year or more in many cases. If you are unsure of where you are planning to get married or you simply want to save on the cost of your venue, choose to have your reception at your home or the home of a family member or friend. Check with your local parks about the possibility of having your wedding outdoors. There are many ways that you can save money on your upcoming nuptials. Saving money on the wedding gives you more money to help fund your honeymoon and your life together afterwards.
