Choosing to get married in the winter has become very popular among engaged couples today. There are a number of ways that you can incorporate winter into your wedding from flowers such as white roses to snow. Winter weddings can be romantic and beautiful and will be much more unique than any other wedding you could plan.
There are of course, a few disadvantages to planning a winter wedding. Many prefer to have their wedding when the weather is warm and sunny. Those who do choose winter for their nuptials will find that the expense may be a bit less than a traditional June wedding. Weddings are not typically held during the colder months which means you may find many discounts on renting wedding halls as well as photography, catering and other essentials.
Those who choose to get married around the Holiday season will find it very easy to incorporate a Christmas theme into their nuptials. If you are getting married in a church, you may be able to use the decorations that the church already has in place which can help to save you money on flowers. Many churches have poinsettias lining pews during the holidays which make beautiful decorations for your upcoming wedding. If you tend to think outside the box or like things a little different, then a winter wedding is an excellent choice. You may also find that popular wedding and reception halls that are typically booked during the summer are more readily available during the winter.
Other advantages to having a winter wedding, besides the obvious cost benefit, include the ability to get exactly what you want for your special day and at a lower cost. Many restaurants and other locations will typically give you discounted prices during the winter because they are typically not as busy during this time. They will literally jump at the opportunity to book a reception during the colder months and may even offer additional benefits such as discounted catering and even a live band in some cases. Also keep in mind that it is much more likely that family and friends will be able to attend because people typically have slower social schedules during the winter than during the summer. Your wedding will not have to take second place to family vacations or other events.
Understand that a winter wedding is much different than one held during the summer. You will have the opportunity to make your wedding completely unique and different from anyone else that you know that was married during the warmer months. The color choices are different and you can incorporate your favorite winter elements into your wedding plans. Understand that there may also be a few disadvantages to having your wedding during the winter, but if you plan ahead you can overcome most problems that will arise. The weather may be an issue, particularly for those who live out of town. If you are in an area that is prone to snow and ice, you may have to allow for storms. Make sure that you have a backup plan in the event of a snowstorm. If you are planning to get married outside, consider the temperatures in your area. Those living in warmer climates, particularly those near the beach should not be affected by cold weather but if you live in the northern region, you may need to plan for an inside wedding just in case the weather does not cooperate.
A winter wedding can be beautiful, magical and romantic if you plan properly. Choose your favorite winter memories to include in your wedding plans and be sure to plan appropriately for the weather and you can have the wedding of your dreams for much less than a summer wedding will cost.
