Gift Basket Home Business Print
Work From Home - WAH Ideas

Gift baskets are highly popular. Virtually everyone in the world has heard of them and many people have purchased them for one occasion or another. Using the popularity of gift baskets to begin a profitable home business is a fairly easy venture. Gift baskets make a particularly good home business for women who are creative and like to express their creativity. By combining your creativity with the popularity of the gift basket industry you could be well on your way to a very successful home business.

Your first decision in your new gift basket business venture will be to decide what you will sell. Gift baskets come in a wide variety of styles and include a massive range of products. You can opt to include home-baked goods such as cookies or muffins or go completely commercialized and include things such as jewelry or stuffed animals. The products that you will include are entirely up to you and your preference. If you enjoy making candles you can set-up a candle gift basket business or if you love homemade candy you can center your business around delicious chocolates and other candies. Deciding what you will include in your gift baskets is one of the most important decisions in your new business venture. You simply can not leave this decision un-made. If you were to simply market gift baskets in general you would soon find yourself overwhelmed by the tasks of making or purchasing hundreds of items for different customers. Decide what you want to sell first and decide if you will be making the items, such as candles, cookies, candy, etc., or if you will be purchasing them already made.

Next you will need to estimate the cost of your baskets. Most gift basket businesses offer standard baskets and custom baskets. Custom baskets will be made per customer requirement. You could begin with approximately 5 to 10 standard gift baskets. These will be your products ranging in price from small to large. These will also be the baskets that you can make in advance and use pictures of these to advertise your services. Custom baskets will be more expensive and this fact should be relayed to your customers. You can take orders from customers for custom baskets but be sure to add up the costs of these as you will need to ensure that you are still making a profit after all supplies are purchased.

Beginning with your smallest standard basket, determine what all supplies will cost to make one. Your supplies will include baskets, cellophane wrap and all products that your baskets will contain. Once you have done this you can add to that cost however much you want your profit for each basket to be. Be sure to not price them too high or customers will simply find a less expensive alternative. A good way to make sure that your pricing is reasonable is to visit gift basket stores locally or online and see what they are charging for standard gift baskets that resemble the ones you will make. If you are planning to sell your gift baskets over the internet, you will also need to inform customers that a shipping cost will apply.

Be sure that you check with your local offices to ensure that you have required all needed licenses and certifications before you begin your business. If you are selling food or drink with your baskets you may need an additional license, particularly if you will be making the foods yourself.
